Tutor for the Master in Public Health Programme at KIT
KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam is a leading centre of expertise for sustainable economic development, gender, health care and intercultural communication. We conduct research and provide advisory services and training in developing countries on a wide range of development issues. We stimulate interactions between global, national and local levels partners and help to bring theory into practice.
KIT organizes an annual 12-month Master of Public Health (MPH) programme; the MPH is awarded by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and is accredited by the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO). The MPH is designed to develop the capacity of senior health managers to use an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to address health problems in low and middle income country settings. Participants can follow two study tracks: Health Systems Policy & Management track, and the Sexual and Reproductive Health track. Typically, participants are mid-career health professionals from various disciplinary backgrounds, and currently in managerial roles in low and middle-income country health systems.
We seek a tutor for the Master of Public Health (MPH) programme.
· For an average of 32 hours/week
· Location is KIT, Amsterdam and from home (according to KIT policy)
· Working language is English
· Starting date: preferably 25 September 2023
· Duration: 8 months
As a course tutor , you will:
· (Co) organise and facilitate the MPH course, possibility to assist in other courses at KIT:
o Act as a contact person for students, facilitators and the course coordination.
o Responsible for the timely availability of study material (schedule, session outlines and required reading) in KIT Virtual Grounds, preparation of sessions, preparation of the class room (i.e. audio-visual material).
o Introduce facilitators, promote group dynamics, share recent experiences.
o Facilitate specific sessions.
· Maintain and improve the quality of the course by:
o Evaluation of sessions with facilitators; taking care of providing feedback to students and facilitators, report overlaps between objectives and content of, register presence/absence of participants.
o Analysing and reporting student evaluations, participate in interim verbal evaluation sessions, writing draft evaluation reports and give suggestions for improvement.
o Contribution to the further development of the content of the training.
o Being aware of the group dynamics and well- being of the students within the course and generate discussion if necessary. Support international students with their integration in the Netherlands, and in the group.
o Encourage and initiate social activities of the group.
o Supporting the module/course coordinators on a daily basis.
o Provide students with feedback on specific skills such as presentation, feedback skills, scientific writing referencing.
o Act as tutor for selected papers/students together with staff.
o Encourage student’s active involvement in their self-reflection.
o Examine selected papers/exams following KIT procedures.
o Participate in team meetings of the course.
We seek an enthusiastic and technically sound professional with:
· Educational background in health sciences / public health
· Recent master’s in Public Health / International Health from KIT
· Good communication skills
· Positive attitude towards education and the transfer of knowledge and skills
· Experience with intercultural learning
· Fluent in written and spoken English
· Computer literacy skills: MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word) and preferably some experience and familiarity with a virtual learning environment, or at least know how to search for information online
· A current valid residence and work permit to live and work in The Netherlands (it is candidate’s responsibility to ensure they already have a work permit in Netherlands by the start of the contract)

Temporary contract and payment via payroll agency. The salary is 15,65 EUR (gross per hour) with a 32-hour working week. Travel costs, and holidays are compensated separately according to KIT’s policy.
